What Camping Equipment Suits You
In a way, camping has already been part of people’s lives since the beginning of time as many early people have lived in tents for hundreds of years now. With the evolution of every recorded civilization, the way houses are built went along with it and living in concrete and stone houses became the trend. Since the majority of the population now dwell in urbanized cities, the urge to get away from it all and to get re-in touch with nature have made camping a favorite weekend activity.
Each year, the number of people going camping grows and a few of the reasons why is to get a vacation and not to spend too much money. Thanks to modern camping equipments, sheltering and cooking food is easier. The days of cooking in open bonfires have mostly been replaced with portable barbecue grills and propane fueled stoves while tents have gone from regular wooden poles and canvass to durable and flexible carbon fibre poles and water proof synthetic fabrics.
Modern tents are easier to store and have become versatile for camping convenience. Tents are crucial whether it’s for hiking, camping or backpacking.
Here are a few tent types to choose from:
Pyramid Tents
The pyramid tent is the most straightforward where four stakes, two wooden poles and one giant canvas are the main tools. Individuals who wish to rough it up choose its simplicity and first-timers will have quite an easy time in setting it up. Tents like these, though, give less protection from insects and expose occupants from mosquito bites. Which is why modern pyramid tents nowadays are made with entryways with zippers which also have synthetic fabric canvass and carbon fiber poles and rods.
Dome Tents
Dome tents have become a favorite and common form of tent for majority of campers. Their dome shape not only slide rain water more effectively but it’s also designed to provide easier entrance and more headroom for its occupants compared to pyramid tents. Regular dome tents are often erected using only two poles. Other dome tents are modified to provide more durability and resilience against strong winds and heavy rains. Additional rods and poles to its overall assembly makes it sturdier to the elements.
Tunnel Tents
Tunnel tents have an uneven space and are tapered lower at the back. Two rods come with tunnel tents as well but one is much shorter than the other one but there are also varieties of single poles. The major advantage of tunnel tents is that they are built lighter. Since they are built more compact, tunnel tents are the ideal type of tents for a 1 man tent.
If you are new to tents, be sure to always keep it dry to prevent moisture damage such as mold and mildew which not only make your tents discolored, but will also make them stinky and a potential health hazard. It is also advisable to dry wet tents before storing them. You can dry your tent by hanging it in a long clothesline and let the air dry it. You can also sun-dry it but it’s important to know that ultraviolet rays from the sun can potentially damage the tent fabric. Just make sure that you don’t leave your tent exposed in the sun too long.
